The project aims at enhancing access control in organisations by combining access control mechanisms, role management, and capability management in a new way.

The project evaluates the usability and security of access control services, providing comparative information on different mechanisms that will help to improve the fluency, monitoring and efficiency of work and assure the real-time authorisation of individuals to specific tasks within an organisation while maintaining the required level of information security.


One of the key innovations brought by the ACIO project will be the availability of enhanced physical/logical access control models which will remove some of the existing bottlenecks hampering to develop efficient corporate policies such as:

  • Lack of efficient mobility support.
  • Lack of support of contextual approaches.
  • Lack of flexibility from the end-user perspective.
  • Secure introduction of new approaches (Cloud Computing, BYOD).

The Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (UPV) is a dynamic,
innovative public institution, dedicated to research and teaching that keeps strong
bonds with the social environment in which its activities are performed and,
simultaneously has an important presence abroad. The Distributed Real Time Systems Lab
(DRTSL) belongs to the Communications Department (CD).

The Distributed Real Time Systems Lab has large expertise
in the following research lines: (i) Video streaming and codification: The DRTSL has designed
the traffic management system, including network design and deployment of Valencia municipality
(around 1000 cameras); (ii) Sensors deployment and simulation: Random deployment, Routing
protocol design; Real time applications development for reliable data acquisition and RFID
applications. Including the development of SSW applications based in the OGC standards so as use
of CEP tools to develop reasoning based on several information sources; and (iii) Command and
control systems: In this research line the DRTSL put the focus in the development of C4I-SR and
BFT systems with the value-added feature of multimedia streaming data and full equipment of the
dismounted units.

In the area of the research projects SATRD group collaborates with
national and international companies from different fields and sectors. Highlighting the group as
a developer of Command and Control System for Small Units (SIMACOP), whose version as Friendly Force
